Reducing Waste

Energy statistics speak for themselves: Over £10 billion a year is spent on energy in non-domestic buildings. 10-20% of this energy is wasted. This means £1-2 billion is literally going up in smoke.

Benchmarking Performance

With Eclipse Research Consultants we have developed a self-assessment matrix to help managers diagnose the state of energy management in their organization. The matrix 'benchmarks' performance and helps focus on one area where progress and improvement can be made. With latest benchmarking technology...

Reducing Waste

Energy statistics speak for themselves:

Over £10 billion a year is spent on energy in non-domestic buildings.

10-20% of this energy is wasted.

This means £1-2 billion is literally going up in smoke.

CHP

Cogeneration (also combined heat and power, CHP) is the use of a heat engine or a power station to simultaneously generate both electricity and useful heat.

Conventional power plants emit the heat created as a by-product of electricity generation into the environment through cooling towers, flue gas, or by other means. CHP or a bottoming cycle captures the by-product heat for domestic or industrial heating purposes, either very close to the plant, or —especially in Scandinavia and eastern Europe—for distribution through pipes to heat local housing.

Cogeneration is a thermodynamically efficient use of fuel. In separate production of electricity some energy must be rejected as waste heat, but in cogeneration this thermal energy is put to good use.

ZEROCO2 provides professional advice on the building use CHP system to assist our client reaching cost effective solutions.

Benchmarking Performance

With Eclipse Research Consultants we have developed a self-assessment matrix to help managers diagnose the state of energy management in their organization. The matrix 'benchmarks' performance and helps focus on one area where progress and improvement can be made. With latest benchmarking technology we are able to identify a realistic investment model.

Environment Analysis Report

picZEROCO2 report that support the good design of daylight and sunlight penetration of developments enables the preparation of the technical statements for planning submissions.

Ensuring that major developments will not lead to windswept plazas and draughty urban canyons requires an understanding of both the process that causes turbulence and gusts around buildings and the effects of wind on pedestrians.

Experience might help predict whether an east wind will flow over a development or whistle through the spaces between the buildings. However, only proper modeling can provide an informed answer.

To provide support for Environmental Impact Statements for urban redevelopment projects, ZEROCO2 uses computer modelling. ‘Computational Fluid Dynamics’ divides the space under investigation into a large number of small computational cells and solves the equations for energy and momentum for the air movement in each cell. CFD simulation has been verified as a realistic model of real air flows. ZEROCO2 has access to wind tunnels for larger projects.
